Tapestry & Fusion: Fall Winter 2026 Techniques

Our collection techniques
Maison Margiela is a house of research. We study the garment, and question every stitch and thread. For each collection, new techniques are elaborated over months and months of research and experimentation. Tapestry and Fusion are two techniques which form an integral part of the creativity of our Fall Winter 2026 collection. Read about them below and on our website.

Tapestry
Since the 1990s, we have reappropriated interior fabrics and decorative surfaces as materials of dressmaking. The precision, technique, and hand finishing used to elevate these materials to couture status changed how the world viewed the art.
For the collection, rigid tapestry jacquard was bonded onto fluid, pre-draped garments before being cut open along the drape lines to reveal movement and softness beneath. Aged and slashed tapestry patches were applied to ready-to-wear pieces creating impossible draping and introducing texture, memory, and lived history.
Fusion
The collection takes our archival technique of lamination explored in the Fall Winter 2001 collection and extends it to a new iteration called Fusion. Fusion garments are created by bonding a material over another garment. The texture of the fused fabric is light, meaning that the outline of garment details and finishings are visible underneath.
This technique is a trompe l’œil, as materials seem to merge into one another. Elements like buttons or lapels of a garment are no longer usable and become purely decorative.
